Lotteries Licences

Lotteries Licences Review

In October 2007, the government announced its new lotteries licences arrangements. The ten-year licences were awarded to Tatts Group and Intralot.

The government's decision followed an extensive review of the public lotteries licences, and recommendations of the Lottery Licence Review Steering Committee. The process was overseen by the Independent Review Panel headed by retired Federal Court Judge Ron Merkel QC.

The lotteries licences came into effect on 1 July 2008. Under the new arrangements, Tatts Group will continue to operate lottery products such as Saturday Lotto, Oz Lotto, and Powerball. Intralot, the new entrant, will operate a variety of lottery products, including scratchies.

The licence documents for the conduct of Victorian public lotteries were tabled in Parliament during November 2007, in accordance with the Gambling Regulation Act 2003 and are available on the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation website.

The Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation continues to regulate the lottery industry.
